Part of the installation in process. "We are all astronauts" at my workshop |
About the role of women in astronautics and the role of people on the Blue Planet in the infinite cosmos.
In continuation of my conceptual exhibition "Houston, we have a problem" about the role and underrepresentation of women in astronautics, the art installation "Tod@s somos astronautas" (We are all astronauts) goes one step further. It declares:
We are all astronauts, the earth is our spaceship, with it we travel through space and time.
The installation of almost life-size representations of women made of outline-cut corrugated cardboard, floating freely in space on a tie, is on the one hand a homage to the female astronauts who have travelled into space so far (current status, 73 women compared to about 650 men).
On the other hand, the figures consequently show women without astronaut suits. The artwork comes from sessions with models, which wants to embody the universality of the idea that we are all astronauts. We all float through the cosmos on our spaceship Earth.
